The LG G2 is already a large device, with a 5.2-inch screen, it teeters on the edge of phablet territory for some used to the 4-inch smartphone size, but for others it is a little too small.
With the Galaxy Note starting the trend of the Xperia Z Ultra really making everyone question the difference between a phone and tablet, LG now plans to jump in the deep end with a 6.4-inch phablet.
The name of this device is still unknown, although with LG dropping the Optimus brand name from their higher-end devices, we expect it will be LG G Pad or something along those lines.
Inside the LG phablet will be a 6.4-inch 1080p screen, quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 3GB of RAM and an 8MP rear camera. LG will add the new UI they presented at their LG G2 event in August onto the phablet, with more room to utilise some of the features.
We know the LG phablet will need to be top of the line and have a massive battery to be competitive, with the Galaxy Note 3, Xperia Z Ultra and the unannounced HTC One Max and Lumia 1520 all strong competitors.
The phablet is also set to have Android’s newest update, KitKat 4.4, on launch. This is odd for LG, who normally struggle to get the latest update and seemingly never update their smartphones after six months.
LG is set to reveal this phablet device at CES, the same place we are likely to see the Xperia Z2 and Galaxy Gear 2.
