While most mainstream wearable devices on the market come with flashy premium designs, a lot of them aren’t exactly designed to be worn in outdoor situations which might require a bit more rough-and-tumble than your average run or gym session. With that in mind, smart wearable manufacturer Polar recently announced the launch of its new Grit X2 Pro, its latest rugged wearable to date. Commenting on the launch, Sander Werring, CEO of Polar Electro states:
“Science, precision, and grit are the values embodied by our Grit X Pro watches that have long been popular with military personnel, firefighters, and those that train in the most demanding conditions… With the Polar Grit X2 Pro, we’ve taken that precision, durability, and design to the next level, offering accessible biosensing and sports features to empower everyone to explore their own capabilities and the world around them with total confidence and style”.
Design and Navigation Features
One look at the watch and you can clearly see that the Grit X2 Pro is designed to take a beating – the watch features a robust-looking industrial design, which comes with a stainless steel front casing. Alternatively, there’s also a variant which Polar says comes with aerospace-grade titanium. The watch’s 1.39-inch display is layered with a protective coating of Sapphire, keeping it safe from most scratches and scuffs. The watch is also tested to comply with military 810H standards, meaning that it will be safe for use in most outdoor situations.
Polar says that users will have a relatively-easy time getting around thanks to the watch’s built-in dual-frequency GPS, which works in tandem with a newly-designed signal-boosting antenna. The Polar Grit X2 Pro also comes with a wealth of navigation and routing tools, including built-in topographic maps, a new “Breadcrumbs” capability, as well as turn-by-turn navigation via komoot, and Strava route sync. The watch comes pre-installed with maps of Europe and North America, and users can also download maps with contour lines as well as additional regions for free in Polar Flow.
Fitness Tracking and Other Details
The Grit X2 Pro runs on Polar’s “Elixir” sensor platform, which packs a myriad of health and fitness monitoring functionality including support for optical heart rate tracking, wrist-based ECG readings, SpO2 blood oxygen levels, and nightly skin temperature monitoring. There’s also support for different workout routines and sport profiles for users.
In terms of battery life, the Polar says that the watch can last for up to 140 hours using eco training mode, up to 43 hour-hour battery life in performance training mode, and up to 10 days in smartwatch mode. Additionally, the Polar Grit X2 Pro comes with a handy built-in flashlight, and 32GB storage for saving training data, maps, and multiple routes for offline use.
