I remember when the 14nm process was introduced and I was wowed by it, fast forward years later, we have the world’s first 4nm process chip from MediaTek and it simply means smartphones with the most advanced and power-efficient chip-making process ever. Wait, but there’s more to it than that, let’s break it down.
The new MediaTek Dimensity 9000 uses new Armv9 architecture CPUs packed with one Ultra-Core Arm Cortex-X2 clocked at 3.05GHz, three Arm Cortex-A710 Super-Cores clocked at up to 2.85GHz, and four Arm Cortex-A510 Efficiency Cores with LPDDR5x 7500Mbps support.
For imaging, the Dimensity 9000 has an 18-bit HDR-ISP design which gives you the capability of capturing HDR video on three cameras simultaneously, meaning three cameras recording with three exposures per frame without draining the battery. It has a powerful 9 Gpixel/s ISP and besides its world’s 1st simultaneous triple camera 18-bit HDR video recording, smartphones using the new Dimensity 9000 can also have up to a 320MP camera, first of its kind.
The Dimensity 9000 packs a couple of the world’s first features, and another is in the gaming department. It has the latest Arm Mali-G710 graphics processor and also introduced a new ray-tracing SDK that will enable developers to bring exciting new graphics techniques and visual enhancements to their Android titles. This is something we’re used to seeing on high-end gaming consoles like the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X, and having this on a smartphone, push smartphone gaming to the next level. Arm Mali-G710 is the world’s 1st MC10 graphics processor and besides the ray tracing SDK using Vulkan for Android, we’ll also get access to 180Hz FullHD+ display support.
Of course, a new processor won’t be a new processor without its connectivity credentials. With Dimensity 9000 we also get the world’s 1st 3CC Carrier Aggregation (300MHz) 7Gbps downlink with incredible peak performance exclusively from sub-6GHz, world’s 1st UL Tx Switching making any Dimensity 9000-powered device the only 5G smartphone modem to support R16 UL Tx Switching for both SUL and NR UL-CA based connections, all with MediaTek 5G Power Saving Technology.
Another world’s 1st is its Bluetooth 5.3 support for smartphones, meaning connectivity whilst remaining energy efficient, secure, stable, and Bluetooth LE Audio-ready technology with Dual-Link True Wireless Stereo Audio. It also uses Wi-Fi 6E 2×2 (BW160) which delivers up to 2X better performance efficiency than the previous generation and supports the latest 6GHz connectivity. MediaTek also mentioned a new AI processing unit (APU) that’s designed to achieve maximum effective performance in AI-multimedia, gaming, camera, and social video experiences.
All in all, Dimesity 9000-powered devices will offer a better user experience when it comes to performance, efficiency, multimedia capabilities including audio, camera, and gaming performance plus more. MediaTek says we can expect devices from next year, end of Q1 (2022).
