What's This?

It’s probably safe to say that as far as action cameras are concerned, Insta360’s wide selection of hardware ranks among the top products in the category. With that said, the brand’s new Ace Pro 2 packs some much-welcome features and upgrades over older models, and Insta360 is confident that it’s more than enough to sway first-time adopters, as well as keep dedicated fans within the confines of Insta360’s gear selection. With that in mind, maybe you’re tempted to pick one up – here’s a rundown of what you can expect with the new Ace Pro 2.

Let’s take a look at the camera’s design – Insta360 says that the Ace Pro 2 comes with improvements in terms of form and function, and as a result it’s got a an even more rugged design for reliability in the field. There’s now up to 39 feet (or 12 meters) of waterproofing, and there’s also an integrated wind guard that reduces outside noise for clearer audio pickup. There’s also a detachable lens guard that adds a bit more protection to the camera when in use, and a larger 2.5-inch touchscreen for UI navigation.

Like a lot of other products launched in the past couple of years, AI’s a big selling point of the Ace Pro 2. Insta360’s AI software is present on the camera, allowing users to access a more intuitive filming experience. This includes the ability to instantly pause or cancel recordings, support for gestures and voice control, auto editing capabilities, as well as an AI highlights assistant that Insta360 says reduces the need for complex workflows for content creators.

The camera has also been developed with veteran camera brand Leica, and packs some serious imagin hardware including a new 1/1.3-inch 8K sensor which works alongside Leica’s SUMMARIT lens, the latter of which comes with a 157-degree field of view. Smoother frame rates are also present thanks to 8K resolution recording at 30fps, 4K recording at 60fps with Active HDR, and features such as PureVideo which improves lowlight filming sessions.

Interestingly, the camera also features a dual-chip system – Insta360 claims that the Ace Pro 2 is the first of its kind to offer a dedicated Pro Imaging Chip, which is responsible for processing images and noise reduction. In addition to this, there’s a 5nm AI chip inside that aids with data processing and general camera performance. Insta360 also worked with Lecia to develop colour profiles which come in handy especially when shooting in challenging environments, such as underwater scenarios for example.

As for availability, the Insta360 Ace Pro 2 is now available for interested buyers, and starts with a basic bundle priced at £409, which includes two 1,800 mAh batteries, a wind guard, standard mount, USB-C cable and a mic cap as well. The most expensive bundle comes in at £521 and includes additional accessories for use in winter scenarios.
