What's This?

At a price of £589, NVIDIA’s new GeForce RTX 4070 GPU certainly makes a case for users looking forward to upgrading their hardware for productivity and even 1440p gaming. The company’s latest addition to its RTX 40 series packs quite a punch with the company’s Ada Lovelace architecture and support for DLSS 3, going beyond the usual use cases such as audiovisual content creation and incorporating AI-powered production into the mix.

NVIDIA says that the GeForce RTX 4070 comes with improved efficiency than previous generation GPUs, using up to 23% less power than the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti for example. At the same time, it will be able run up to 1.7x faster with DLSS 3 during gaming sessions. NVIDIA attributes these bumps in performance to architectural enhancements included in the RTX 40 series, including considerably less power usage during web browsing, video watching, or when idle. Comparing it to previous RTX products, NVIDIA states:

“Compared to the RTX 2070 SUPER, the GeForce RTX 4070 is 2.6x faster with DLSS 3 on average, and the GeForce RTX 4070 is 1.4x faster than the GeForce RTX 3080 with DLSS 3 on average. DLSS 3 provides Ada GPUs with a tremendous performance boost, but the GeForce RTX 4070 also excels in traditional games that don’t include more advanced features such as ray tracing and DLSS. In these rasterized games, the GeForce RTX 4070 is on par with the GeForce RTX 3080 while running at nearly half the power, and offering an additional 2GB of memory.”

Users of NVIDIA’s Studio technologies will be pleased to know that the GeForce RTX 4070 GPU will support NVIDIA’s creative platform. This also includes hardware acceleration aimed towards video, AI, and 3D content creation. Additionally, NVIDIA has also included support for Studio apps including Omniverse and RTX Remix, for example.
