What's This?

Xiaomi’s been on a roll lately – alongside the launch of its latest Redmi K60 series, the Chinese manufacturer has also released a special edition phone of sorts, in the form of the Redmi Note 12 Pro Speed Edition. The phone is a variant of the Redmi Note 12 Pro, launched a while back this year. The company is no stranger to releasing (or even rebranding) several of its handsets for different markets and variations, and the Note 12 Pro is no exception.

Despite the fancy name change, the new Note 12 Pro variant comes with similar specs to its brethren, including 67W wired charging support, a large 5,000 mAh battery, as well as a similar overall design, albeit with some changes to the camera module and branding. The rest of the phone features a rather standard-looking smartphone design though, with a hole-punch camera display, a power and volume array on the right-hand side, as well as a camera island on the upper-left corner of the rear panel.

While it is mostly similar to the other Note 12 Pro models, that’s not to say that there are zero differences though, as the Redmi Note 12 Pro Speed Edition comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G chip, a 108-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL sensor, accompanied by 8MP ultrawide and 2MP macro cameras on the rear.

As for the rest of its hardware, the phone features a 6.67-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner (no in-display tech for this one), a 3.5mm headphone jack, and even an IP53 rating. It runs on MIUI 14 based on Android 13, and is available in different colours including blue, black, and green models, with 6GB/128GB, 8GB/256GB, and 12GB/256GB storage variants.

The “earlier” Note 12 Pro model was launched back in November this year, and includes specs like a 6.67-inch display, a MediaTek Dimensity 1080 chipset, and a 5,000 mAh battery. It shares a very similar style to its Speed Edition sibling, with some minor design accent variations.

In other Xiaomi news, the company also announced its latest Redmi K60 series, which consists of three models including the Redmi K60, Redmi K60 Pro, and Redmi K60 E. The K60 Pro takes top spot in the line-up, and includes specs like a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, making the phone ideal for performance-demanding tasks and gaming. On the front of the phone is a 6.67” AMOLED display (similar to the Speed Edition) with a 3200 x 1440 pixel resolution and a maximum brightness of 1400 nits, 120Hz refresh rate, as well as an in-display fingerprint scanner.

As for the Note 12 Pro Speed Edition, The phone is meant to compete with other midrange smartphones like the Pixel 6a and Nothing Phone 1, and it will cost around €230 (when converted) for the 6GB model, with the 8GB model coming in at around €245. Meanwhile, the 12GB version will be priced at €270. There’s no word yet on when it will be released for international markets, but we imagine that will change soon with a formal announcement from Xiaomi.
