It seems Microsoft will continue spewing out Surface units, but will ditch the RT moniker after the failure of the first Surface RT. Recently, Microsoft said they had lost $900 million on the Surface and just recently Steve Ballmer has announced his retirement in the next twelve months, showing the lack of love for new projects.
The main problems with the Surface RT included the lack of native apps, the price and the design of Windows RT. The operating system should have went full mobile, but instead it latched on the desktop version, with only five compatible Office apps.
Microsoft should be able to address all problems in the next turn, with rumours saying the company will add a seven-inch and ten-inch model, the smaller one coming at the same price as the Nexus 7 and the other coming a little cheaper than the iPad.
It is still unclear if Windows RT will stick, it is likely Microsoft will keep it on the Surface 2. This could be another big miss, but we doubt Microsoft will fund a huge advertising movement for the next Surface.
The Surface 2 came alongside a new Surface Pro, but the Windows ad network did say this may just be an Windows 8.1 Surface Pro and not a completely new unit. We doubt Microsoft will launch a new Surface Pro for a solid year.
This also came alongside some Nokia tablets running Windows RT, we have heard rumours of a new Windows RT tablet from Nokia and a possible Windows 8 tablet.
