Motorola could be preparing an early price drop with the Moto X, even though “out of stock” signs point to big interest in the new smartphone developing in cooperation with its owner Google. Motorola even had to say delivery would take 8 days and not 4 days as they had planned, due to lots of interesting in customised Moto X units.
The price drop will come alongside the launch of wooden backplates, Motorola is set to launch four different types of wood on the Moto Maker. This delay in carriers and parts may be hurting Motorola, especially since AT&T still holds an exclusive deal with Motorola for the Moto Maker, the only way to develop a custom Moto X.
Figuring out why Motorola is preparing the price drop is hard business, especially when the news is just a rumour from evleaks. From the start the Moto X was battered by people who thought the new smartphone was underpowered and too expensive, even though it comes with quality battery life and impressive software.
One reason could be the new Nexus device, reportedly being developed by either LG or Motorola for Q4 2013. Google may want the Moto X to sit down as they release the new flagship, if it is also developed by Motorola, the Nexus device may incorporate the Moto Maker in a new way.
There are currently no figures to say how well the Moto X has performed, it is still early days. The Droid devices have been doing adequately, Verizon Wireless recently sold out Droid Mini stock on Amazon after a $50 price drop.
