Motorola had big plans for the Moto X, the million dollar marketing campaign funded by Google and the first U.S built smartphone could have been enough to secure them a nice lump sum, but it doesn’t seem to have worked out.
The Moto X gained a bit of traction and the price reductions have helped Motorola continue to distribute the smartphone around North America, but it may be time to set the smartphone out to Europe and other areas.
According to new reports, Motorola’s UK event on January 14 will be the Moto X launch in Europe. We do not believe Moto Maker will come with the Moto X to Europe, but basic colors will be available, with some funky choices from certain carriers.
This will be the first move outside North America, but we do wonder if it comes too late. Samsung and HTC are both reportedly preparing their next generation flagship smartphones, which will be another step above the Moto X.
The Moto X does have some valuable trade-ins, including the near stock Android experience with Motorola’s new software features, long hours of battery and a nice design and size for those looking to move away from iPhone.
Motorola has already released the Moto G in Europe and Asia and the Moto X is the next logical step. Since this is a bit of a late-comer, we may see a price drop to £0 on contract or £399 off contract.
If the Moto X had became an international smartphone on day one or even month one, we believe Motorola would’ve had plenty more success, but they decided keeping it in the US only was a good sales pitch.
We are not sure what the next chapter in the Moto X life will be, with normal smartphones an upgrade in specs is enough, but we may see Motorola expand on the customisation with the next generation Moto Maker, to include internals.
