What's This?

In true Google Pixel fashion, the Pixel 9a has been leaked to oblivion over the past weeks and months, and it’s safe to say that we mostly have an idea of what to expect once Google “formally” announces its upcoming midrange phone. With that in mind, new footage online shows hands-on action with the Pixel 9a, giving us another view of the device.

CHECK OUT: How Does Google’s Identity Check Feature Work?

A video originally posted online on Discord by Alexis Garza – and later shared on Threads by user Shane Craig – showcases the rear design of the Pixel 9a. If you’ve been keeping up with the many Pixel 9a leaks over the past couple of months, the video confirms the design that we’ve seen before, such as the completely flat rear panel (which looks like a matte finish), and the smaller camera bump, which ditches the camera bar seen on previous Pixel models.

It can be remembered that Google introduced a camera bar design (starting on the Pixel 6 series phones) which was then carried over to subsequent models like the Pixel 7 series, all the way to last year’s Pixel 9 phones. With the Pixel 9a however, the camera design is a lot more basic, with just a camera window and LED flash.

Other hardware predictions claim that the Pixel 9a will feature a 6.2-inch display with a peak brightness of up to 2,700 nits, in addition to a 120Hz refresh rate, and will come with Gorilla Glass protection in the form of Gorilla Glass 3 (which at this point is years old now). Additionally, it looks like we’re also getting black and white, a Peony version (aka the Pink one on the Pixel 9 phones), and a newer “Iris” model which is expected to feature a bluish-purple look, all with IP68 dust and water protection.

Going back to the smaller camera bump, the Pixel 9a will come with the same dual-camera setup on most other Pixel models, although it will supposedly get rid of the 64MP camera seen on the Pixel 7a and 8a, and instead will feature a higher-quality 48MP resolution sensor. This will be accompanied by a 13MP ultra-wide camera, and a 13MP front-facing camera for selfies and video calls.

As for performance, the Pixel 9a will run on Google’s Tensor G4 chip, which initially arrived with the Pixel 9 devices. While the Tensor G4 isn’t particularly powerful when compared to other flagship-tier chips like the Snapdragon 8 Elite for example, it does come with better efficiency and thermal management compared to older Tensor chips. It’s also rumoured that Google will use an older modem for the version of the Tensor G4 on the Pixel 9a. Other details include 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage, and a 5,100 mAh battery.

CHECK OUT: The iPhone 16E is Finally Official: Here’s What You Should Know!

The Pixel 9a will also reportedly come priced at £499, making it a hundred quid cheaper than the recently-launched iPhone 16e. The Google Pixel 9a is set to be announced later in March, much earlier than the usual May launch timeline of previous Pixel A-series devices.
