2025 is finally here, and there are a lot of upcoming phones to look forward to especially for consumer tech enthusiasts. Following Samsung’s big Galaxy S25 reveal, buyers looking to get a new phone are now looking forward to Google and Apple, both of which are rumoured to be launching their midrange smartphone models around March (or possibly April). In the case of Apple’s fourth-generation iPhone SE there’s already been a ton of leaks, the most recent of which show off the phone’s design.
Familiar but New Look
Twitter user @MajinBuOfficial has recently posted a number of hands-on photos (seen above) showing what many speculate to be a dummy model of the iPhone SE 4. As earlier rumoured, it comes with the same form factor and dimensions as on the iPhone 14, with flat sides that ditch the rounded edges of the iPhone SE 3 and 2. Also gone is the home button, which is now replaced by a full-screen display, with many predicting an OLED panel as well. There’s still some debate as to whether or not it will feature Apple’s Dynamic Island or the “classic” notch, which is a bit hard to tell given that the dummy model does not feature a working screen.
Other leaks also state that Apple might equip the iPhone SE 4 with the action button in lieu of the mute switch, which has now been slowly phased out on newer iPhone models. This might also fall in line with the company establishing a more uniform hardware approach to its phones moving forward, as the action button isn’t exactly a “flagship-grade” feature by any means. The same can be said for the USB-C port, which is expected to appear on the SE 4.
Performance, Software and Camera
Apple is also predicted to bring over its A18 chipset to the iPhone SE 4, which shouldn’t be too surprising since the iPhone SE 3 likewise came with the A15 Bionic, which appeared on the iPhone 13 series just months before its launch. The SE 4 will also be equipped with 8GB of RAM, allowing it to support Apple’s AI features, which will not come to devices older than the iPhone 15 Pro models.
As for camera hardware, the iPhone SE 4 will come with a single sensor at the back (rumours state a resolution of 48MP), and it’s unlikely that Apple will equip it with a secondary ultrawide sensor, since it’s another feature that’s reserved solely for base flagship models. The SE phones have more or less focused on giving users the bare essentials, so this was to be expected. In any case, more leaks are sure to come soon, especially as we get nearer and nearer to the phone’s supposed launch date.
Pricing and Launch Date
Other predictions include a price tag starting at $499, much more expensive than the iPhone SE 3’s launch price back in 2022 – this is according to a rumoured leak from South Korea. Given this price bracket and a supposed launch around March or April, it looks like Apple is going after Google’s Pixel 9a, which is also expected to come with the same price at around the same time.
