Considering the vast amount of different Galaxy S4 versions, it is only right we are hearing a rumor about two possible models coming to Mobile World Congress, a low and high-end model, each with different specs.
The new AnTuTu benchmark appears to be for the low-end model, if it can be called low-end. The Galaxy S5 will be running a 2.5GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM and will come with a 16MP rear camera.
Specs do fit in line with what we seen last year and are a step down from the “2K display”, Snapdragon 805 processor, 3GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage components we should be seeing on the high-end version.
The question is, do the specs really make a huge difference for the consumer. If the Galaxy S5 has the same design, but an $100 price difference between both models, we wonder how many will actually buy the premium model.
Of course, Samsung could pull something similar to Apple, offering the high-end version with premium metal and the low-end version with the same slimy plastic they had on the Galaxy S4.
Samsung has been thrown a curve ball in the past few months, despite being the biggest supplier of mobile phones, their rate of expansion is starting to slow and they are in a similar position to Apple.
Both companies do well in the quarters and normally push above estimates, but they fail to invigorate a sense of huge growth, because they are the biggest. In this year, Samsung will need to prove the Galaxy S5 is the best phone in the world and decisively win when it comes to sales, especially against Apple.
It will be hard for Samsung to achieve this, because they need to show all the features and advancements the Galaxy S5 has against other Android phones and then show all the custom and unique features that make it better than the iPhone.
The duo-Galaxy S5 launch may be a way to bring more sales and expand the brand to lower-end markets, continuing the trend with the S5 Mini, Zoom and possibly the Active.
