Google has kept consumers in the dark about the second generation Nexus 10 tablet and it has been left open in two events, with no hints or points at a larger tablet coming anytime soon.
Sundar Pichai, the leader of Android and Chrome, did say there would be news on the Nexus 10 (2013) soon, right after the Android 4.3 event. We have now had the Android 4.4 event and still there is nothing on the Nexus 10, despite the Nexus 5 being announced at the same event.
This latches onto rumors about the Nexus 8 and Nexus 12 tablets Google is currently looking at unveiling sometime in the near future. For the moment, we will put those two devices in the “possible, but unlikely” folder, alongside the iTV and Motorola smartwatch.
Google is still insistent on waiting for the Google Play store and app developers to make more interesting third party applications, before releasing the Nexus 10 to the world. The previous Nexus 10 was a small failure on Google’s part, simply due to the lack of interesting content for the larger display.
This is the opposite of the Nexus 7, Google’s other tablet, that has waves of investment and content tailored for the seven-inch form factor. The impression is that the larger display needs more content and not just stretched applications from the Nexus 7.
Whatever the case, we should be seeing the Nexus 10 crop up on the Google Play store on November 21, as quietly as the Nexus 5 cropped up a month ago. There will be no big event for the Nexus 10 and we expect Google to just make one announcement and then release the larger tablet.
Price points will be the same as last year we believe, unless Google wants to go ultra-aggressive against the Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) and the iPad, which we doubt they really want to try, considering Samsung’s tolerance of new price points.
