What's This?

The hype king and former co-founder of OnePlus, Carl Pei, decided to leave the company in 2020. After a period of uncertainty, he announced the formation of his new company, “Nothing.” Soon after, the company released its first product, the “Nothing Ear (1),” which was remarkably successful given how fiercely competitive the audio market was. Carl later revealed his wish earlier this year. His goal is to revive the excitement surrounding smartphones by taking on Apple head-on. And on July 12th, we will receive the Nothing Company’s first official phone, the Nothing Phone (1). With all the leaked details thus far, we got an early preview via Tech YouTuber MKBHD and it seems to hold a lot of potential for a mid-range device.

Design

The Translucent back design of the Nothing Phone (1) will include a really intriguing feature known as the Glyph Interface. In essence, you may configure the phone to display a variety of lights to stand in for various notifications and calls. Although the white version of the phone has been revealed, we are still hoping for a black model. And it’s safe to say that just the back design will pique users’ interest.

What’s Inside Nothing Phone (1)

Popular tech news leakers have given us a general notion of what to anticipate, despite this not being officially confirmed.

A mid-range processor for a mid-range phone; Carl Pei already confirmed the Nothing Phone (1) will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+ which supports wireless charging and reverse wireless charging. Carl also mentions this is to avoid heavy costs while still delivering performance and good power efficiency. If they were to compete with Apple in the long run, we think they would need their own chip, or opt for a flagship chipset. At OnePlus this is something that was done before – start with an accessible, lower-cost device then move on to flagship-level down the line.

The Phone (1) will be rocking a 4,500mah battery that can be charged at up to 45 watts, a speculated storage capacity of up to 256GB and a minimum of 8GB of RAM. Important to note: There is no headphone jack.

Phone (1) Cameras

In order for Nothing Phone (1) to be a worthy player in the current phone market, it would need a fantastic camera experience. Even though it is a mid-range device, it must compete in a space where we have the Pixel and a plethora of devices from RealMe, Xiaomi, and OnePlus.

The Nothing Phone (1) is reported to have a 50mp dual rear camera with an f/1.8 sensor and 4k video capture at 60 frames per second. Our only hope here is that Nothing isn’t just going to bank on hardware but also developing a great software experience. The likes of Honor have big pixel counts but the software is always a letdown.
We should only hope for the best. However, I would wait to act if I were you till the official review appeared on my channel.

Display, Software and Pricing

The 6.55-inch OLED 120hz display for the Nothing Phone 1 was revealed by leaker Abisheck Yadav. So if the report is true, things will go quite smoothly. I was expecting a new Operating system, however, but the Nothing Phone 1 will run Android under its own skin, the Nothing OS. You can be sure to get customized widgets without any bloatware.
Three years of OS updates and four years of security updates will be guaranteed.

The launch pricing of the Nothing Phone 1 was also revealed via early listings of the device on Amazon UK, which Mukul Sharma initially discovered. According to the listings, the Nothing Phone 1’s base 8GB+128GB model will cost €469.99 (about $490), while the 8GB+256GB and 12GB+256GB editions will cost €499.99 (about $521) and €549.99 (about $573), respectively.

What are your thoughts? Are you hyped for the Nothing Phone (1)?

The Nothing Phone (1) will be an exciting purchase for many people, including us, and I’m sure that the joy of being among the first owners will be incredible.

Important Information: PreOrder is presently active but will not be accessible in the US. At launch, the device will only be accessible by invitation.
