The trend of launching “mini” versions of a flagship phone is growing, but Oppo appears to be a little confused about the term. The new Oppo N1 Mini announced today is 0.9-inches smaller than the original, but that still makes it the same size as the Galaxy S5 and HTC One M8.
It is odd to call the Oppo N1 Mini a “mini” device, considering the phone is 1-inch bigger than the iPhone 5S and the same size as most flagship devices. Even the HTC One Mini and Galaxy S4 Mini both come under 4.5-inches, making them viable for consumers who want a smaller device.
The Oppo N1 Mini comes with the same 180 rotating camera that works as a front and rear camera. The 13MP sensor isn’t too shabby either, capable of taking 24MP shots through software. The Oppo N1 Mini looks almost identical to the original in terms of design and inside Oppo has fitted the same internals.
Some differences between the original and mini include the battery, dropped from a 3,610mAh powerhouse to a slender 2,140mAh, still decent for a 5-inch device but nothing special, especially against the HTC One M8 and Galaxy S5.
Oppo has added Color OS to the N1 Mini, we are unsure if CyanogenMod OS will be added to this smartphone for a limited time, our guess is CyanogenMod only got one shot with Oppo and is currently working with Oppo’s sister company OnePlus on a custom version of the ROM.
The Oppo N1 Mini does have LTE support, stepping up from the original, but we do not believe this will be heading out of China. Oppo has started getting a better reputation outside of China, but they still keep most of their products inside the country, not wanting to venture too far out of Asia.
