Panasonic has announced its latest mirrorless camera, the LUMIX G100. Specially designed for vloggers and content creators with a super lightweight and compact body. The G100 is the latest camera targeting social media creatives and removes the need for bulky camera equipment, promising image, video and sound performance that doesn’t compromise on quality.
Lumix G100 – Features
Weighing just 412g with its 12-32mm kit lens, the G100 is incredibly light and compact. It can capture high-resolution 4K or Full HD video in a variety of frame rates.
Sitting at the heart of the G100 is a 20.3MP MOS sensor without a low pass filter. This means it should deliver highly detailed shots. In a world where smartphones are increasingly capable of capturing content for social media, the G100 offers a larger micro-four-thirds sensor with a high sensitivity of ISO 25,600 – a superior combo for low-light shooting. When you throw in the ability to change lenses, the G100 should be a huge step up for enthusiasts who are looking to expand their photography and video skills.
To make things even slicker for creatives, the G100 has a Frame Marker feature so that all of your content is ready to fit in the exact aspect ratio for your chosen platform – straight out of the camera. And pairing the G100 camera to a smartphone is made even easier, thanks to a dedicated connect function button placed on its left shoulder. The G100 benefits from GPS, Bluetooth 4.2 and Wi-Fi 2.4GHz connectivity.
Lumix G100 – Standout Sound Quality
Perhaps the neatest trick going for the G100 is its high-quality, spatial audio recording capabilities. To help this camera standout in an increasingly crowded camera segment, Lumix has integrated an OZO Audio by Nokia sound system. It’s the first mirrorless camera of its kind to offer such an advanced feature.
According to Lumix, the G100’s three internal microphones record clear and vibrant sound with accuracy and precision, “setting a new standard in innovative audio solutions for user-generated content”. During the digital press launch we got to see how the G100 can intelligently track the voice of a detected person, automatically switching to the most appropriate sound mode for the situation using content aware AF such as face detection. With this versatile audio technology, users should be able to capture high quality audio for vlogging and interview style content without spending extra on an external microphone.
Lumix G100 – Video Extras
Special video effects such as 2x/4x slow motion and 2x/4x/8x FHD quick motion are easy to create with quick access from on the mode dial. Time lapse and stop motion animation features are also available with interval shooting and image composition processing inside the camera.
For advanced videographers, the G100 supports V-Log L recording. Users can apply the LUT (Look Up Table) of their choice on the recorded V-Log L footage on a PC.
Lumix’ famous 4K Photo functionality is also onboard for capturing fast-moving action by just selecting the preferred frame out of a burst sequence.
Lumix G100 – New Accessory
Alongside the G100, Panasonic has also introduced a new portable tripod grip (DMW-SHGR1) RRP £89.99, which improves handling during video recording. It will also be useful for time-lapse sequences and stills on-the-go. Connecting with the camera via USB, you can use the tripod grip to start/stop video recording, release the shutter, and enable or disable Sleep mode.
With a three-inch, high resolution free-angle touch screen and 3,680K dot viewfinder, the G100 is well equipped for capturing high-quality images and video from any angle.
Lumix G100 Availability
The Panasonic LUMIX G100 will be available from the end of July with a suggested retail price of £589.99 for body only, £679.99 for 12-32mm lens kit, or £719.99 for 12-32mm lens and tripod grip kit.
