What's This?

Bluetooth earpiece might be phasing out quietly as more and more vehicles are been fitted with bluetooth system so that drivers can use their phones while they cruise along; vehicles who aren’t fitted with bluetooth by default might cost the driver a little bit more as extras which is why a company like Plantronics will still continue to make earpieces to help save money and what better way to keep making those earpieces than to make them snazzy and smart.

The Voyager Edge caught my attention when I saw it back in February; although my car has bluetooth built in, I have 3 smart phones that I carry around with me and since I can only connect one phone at a time to my car, it made sense to have something like the Voyager Edge so I can connect it to my other devices.

The Voyager Edge looks great, it has a diamond shaped earpiece with a slim boom mic sticking out from it; it weights just 0.31 ounces and just over 2.5 inches long. In the packaging you get three rubbery ear tips with a loop attached intended to help keep the earpiece in place and one optional clip on plastic loop if you still feel the need to keep it secure around your ear. I notice that the earpiece is very stable even without the plastic loop and the trick is to make sure you use the correct size for your ear. the rubbery tips are also soft in order to provide comfort especially if you are the kind that would wear it all day long.

Elsewhere there is also a portable charging dock or cradle with a built in battery so when you have your Voyager Edge docked it will always be on charge which means battery life lasts longer, I tend to have it in the car and take it out when leaving the car so its always there charging my earpiece.

The Voyager Edge comes with Bluetooth 4.0 and if you have an NFC ready smart phone you can also pair it very quickly tapping it against your phone. When it comes to its smart features, it has sensors that allows you to answer calls just by picking up the earpiece or if you already have it in your ear, you can answer by saying Answer which is great because it stops the user/driver from taking hands off the steering wheel.

Battery life as you can imagine is good to last a whole day providing you also use the charging cradle included, otherwise you will get around 5.5 hours of talk time from it. It also offers A2DP which means you can listen to music on the move with the Voyager Edge, although not recommended as its not as good as using regular or dedicated headphones.

When it comes to call quality, its not lacking in that department at all; others can be heard clearly even in a noisy environment and vice versa, no problem hearing me from their end also. There aren’t any static noises or interference.
