What's This?

Razer’s experience in developing and designing gaming peripherals for different software platforms has undoubtedly resulted in some of the coolest tech around, and its newest Kishi Ultra controller continues this proud tradition. Unveiled by the company just this past week, the Kishi Ultra takes what made the original Kishi controllers great and adds a bit more into the mix. Nick Bourne, Head of Razer’s Mobile, Console & Streaming Division states:

“With the Razer Kishi Ultra, we’re not just elevating mobile gaming; we’re transforming it… We’ve taken the essence of console gaming and distilled it into a form factor that works with more devices than ever before, ensuring that the ultimate gaming experience is always within reach.”

With all that being said, the razer Kishi Ultra does come with some nifty features, which we’ll check out today. Should you get this over competing controllers from other brands? Let’s find out.

Hardware Design

In terms of looks, the Kishi Ultra greatly resembles Razer’s earlier controllers, especially with the general design which incorporates familiar curves and angles, melding into a fairly compact setup. It also features the same bridge that connects both controllers, allowing them to securely clamp onto a device as needed. Razer has made some key adjustments however, including changes to the button placement which has resulted in the control sticks and action buttons moved to an off-centre placement.

Razer has also added a bit more grip this time around with a new and updated ergonomic design, echoing the same styling that you’ll find on most modern game controllers. Of course everything needed for control is included, such as action and directional buttons, shoulder and trigger inputs with hall-effect technology, and the addition of programmable L4 and R4 buttons for more in-depth control. Also present on the Kishi Ultra is Razer’s Chroma RGB lighting, which does add for more game-centric feel.

Device Compatibility

Perhaps one of the best highlights of the Kishi Ultra is that it’s compatible with different devices, including a plethora of Android smartphones and tablets, iPhone 15 models (thanks USB-C!), and the iPad Mini 2021. This is very ideal for folks who want to add more precise physical controls to their mobile gaming sessions, without the need to settle for finicky touchscreen controls. As it plugs directly into your smart device, there’s no need for a built-in battery which does allow for a more compact and lightweight design overall.

Of course it’s also able to work with Windows computers, thanks to wired input. For Android phones and Windows 11 computers, the Kishi Ultra comes with Razer’s Sensa Haptic feedback system, adding a bit more immersion to gaming sessions. If you’re thinking about grabbing one for yourself, then the Razer Kishi Ultra will cost you €169.99. It’s currently available via Razer’s online store, RazerStores and authorized resellers.
