What's This?

In terms of Android hardware, there’s a lot of exciting stuff that we’ve seen from Chinese manufacturers that really push the boundaries regarding what mobile hardware can do. This includes everything from displays with impressive refresh rates, to batteries with instant charging speeds. As such, Realme recently announced its latest addition to its 2023 smartphone lineup in the form of the Realme GT5, which packs some serious tech including 24GB of RAM and 240W fast charging, something not often seen on a lot of Android handsets out there.

Of course, there’s more to the phone beyond its RAM capacity and battery prowess – so what do you get with the Realme GT5? Let’s find out.

Display and External Hardware

First up is the display – the Realme GT5 comes with a 6.74-inch AMOLED panel, which features a 1,240 x 2,772 pixel resolution, 10-bit colour rendering, a 20:9 aspect ratio, and a 144Hz refresh rate. Additionally, the screen also comes with a peak brightness of 1,400 nits, making it one of the brighter displays that we’ve seen on an Android handset. The display is surrounded by a metal frame that wraps around the phone’s sides, as well as the glass rear panel.

Other hardware details include a stereo-speaker setup with Dolby Atmos sound, as well as an in-display fingerprint reader. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the phone will feature expandable SD card storage expansion, and it lacks a 3.5mm headphone jack as well.

Internal Specs

Based on the marketing materials, it looks like Realme has positioned the phone towards gamers, with an emphasis on performance. As with a lot of high-powered Android phones released this year, the Realme GT5 runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, with an Adreno 740 GPU. Inside is a 5240 mAh battery that powers the entire set-up, aided by a 9-layer cooling system and a 20,827mm² vapor chamber for prolonged gaming sessions.

The phone ships with Android 13, although it is layered with a healthy serving of Realme UI, which gives users access to a bunch of pre-installed third-party apps, as well as Realme’s own exclusive software.

The phone also comes with two different charging speed variants. There’s a model with 150W fast-charging speed, which comes in either a 12/256GB or 16/512GB storage configuration, and there’s a much faster 240W fast-charging variant, which features 24GB of RAM and 1TB of internal storage, which we have to say is rather impressive. One caveat however is that the 240W charging version comes with a smaller 4600 mAh battery.

Camera Hardware

For optics, the Realme GT5 features a triple-camera setup, with a 50MP main camera, an 8MP ultrawide camera, as well as a 2MP macro lens. The main camera is based on a Sony IMX890 sensor, and features an f/1.9 aperture, as well as OIS. In front is a 16MP camera for selfies and video calls. Realme has encased the camera island in a large window situated on the rear panel, made all the more interesting thanks to an LED flash that surrounds a Snapdragon logo, something that we don’t usually see on many smartphones.

As for availability, the Realme GT5 is currently only available to buyers in China, starting at around $410 (when converted), and will be sold in silver and green variants. There’s no word yet on global availability, although we imagine we might see an announcement from Realme soon for more regions.
