Google has never been a big fan of color choice, the past few generations of Nexus smartphones have only came in white or black, but a report yesterday revealed new color options coming to the LG Nexus 5.
This has been followed up by another report on PhoneArena, showing a prototype red Nexus 5. This will be one of the six new colors coming to the Nexus 5, alongside yellow, green, blue, orange and purple.
For Google, adding multiple color options on the Google Play store is a rare occasion. Almost all the stock Android devices on the store come in their basic colors and Nexus smartphones and tablets are available in one or two different color options.
It looks like Google has got a bit of the Motorola vibe. All of the colors should be available on the Google Play store, although the leaker gave away no information about dates and region availability. We expect U.S and UK carriers will also get timed exclusive colors.
The LG Nexus 5 has only been out for a few months and we have yet hear how well it has done worldwide. The previous Nexus 4 was sold out constantly on the Google Play store, but LG and Google seem to have resolved the supply issues.
Analysts have said the Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 (2013) both failed to surpass last year’s lineup in terms of sales. This may due to price increases on both devices, making them a little unappealing to the low-end market.
Whatever the case, we are sure the extra colors will bring in more buyers. We should see these new colors before Summer, as it is likely Google will announce a new Nexus as Google I/O.
