Google Glass, the new augmented reality glasses currently only available through Explorer friends, is set to come at a much cheaper price when it finally is available to the public.
Currently, the only way to grab Google Glass is to have a friend already accepted into the Explorer project, Google now lets Explorer’s send friends invites to the Glass project, but they still have to pay $1500 for the privilege.
However, analysts peg the final price to be much cheaper than $1500, with the Google Glass internals costing less than $200 to create. The problem with this is they have not factored in R&D, something Google has been continuously doing with Glass.
Another reporter claims to have spoken to people close to the Google Glass team, bringing news the augmented reality glasses will be a lot more expensive than the $299 price floating around. Looking at all the different factors to take into consideration, we could see Google Glass come at the same price as a high-end smartphone off contract.
Whatever the case, it will cost less than it is currently by a huge margin, anywhere from $500 off the price to $1200. This is a bad deal for those Explorer’s who find it awkward using Google Glass in public, knowing when the device is released to the public it will cost hundreds less.
