In terms of companies with the most investments in different industries, Samsung has to be up there in the list, as its presence in mobile computing, not to mention home appliance and entertainment products has been felt worldwide.
With that being said, Samsung has also invested in designing products for educational purposes, and its most recent WAC Interactive Display is a great example of this. The new product was unveiled during the British Educational Training and Technology (BETT) Exhibit, which was held in London. Also unveiled was the Samsung Whiteboard app, which is designed to work perfectly with the new monitor. As per a statement from Hoon Chung, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics:
“Our education technology is designed to equip educators with the tools they need to fully engage students and enrich the learning experience in any environment. At Bett, we are excited to showcase our interactive display solutions, demonstrating the level of advanced usability and interactivity required for the tech-enabled future of education.”
In terms of hardware specifications, the WAC monitor will be available in three different screen sizes which include 65, 75, as well as 86-inch models, all with support for touch controls, and even stylus and pen input. The WAC’s interface will run on a special version of Android, which means that the monitor will be compatible with a ton of Android apps, especially ones that are designed for educational and presentation purposes (in addition to the Samsung Whiteboard app).
Designed to be slim, the WAC series packs built-in IR touch functionality, which lets users enjoy a natural writing experience, with support for 20 multi-touch drawing and a dual-sided pen to write with a different colour on each end without changing the settings.
Samsung adds that the WACs interface will include support for up to nine screens during usage, which is a nice feature to have especially during complex presentations with a need for multi-tasking. Users will also be able to use the Device Management Solution (DMS) function for the WAC display, which allows the monitoring and control the display in the classroom remotely at the same time. The DMS can also alert users with warning messages to the screen collectively in case of an emergency.
Meanwhile, the Samsung Whiteboard app is designed specifically for educators and presentations, and will allow connectivity to Windows OS devices. This means that even after connecting a PC to the display, user can still write on top of the displayed PC content in real-time, which makes for a much more dynamic learning experience. The app will also enable file sharing and storage, and real-time annotation functionality in different presentation scenarios, including video conferences.
Prior to the new WAC models, Samsung has previously launched similar-functioning products in the form of the WMB, WMA, and WMR monitors.
