JK Shin, the co-CEO of Samsung, has announced the company will release an LTE-advanced variant of the popular Galaxy S4 smartphone and will be the first to ship any device with this LTE-advanced chip.
The LTE-advanced could double current speeds on LTE packages, hitting somewhere around 150-200mbps. This type of pace is not seen on most broadband providers, never mind mobile carriers.
However, as the pace of technology jolts, especially in the smartphone market, so must the innovation on the backend. Wireless carriers have been faster to implement new technology like 4G than broadband ISP’s have to increase Internet speeds.
We have already seen LTE-advanced networking go live in certain parts of Russia and we believe US carriers will push for LTE-advanced before 2014, even though T-Mobile is just starting to push their 4G network.
This will be the fifth Galaxy S4 variant, with the Zoom, Active, stock Android and original GS4 already unveiled by Samsung. We believe the company is working on more variants to come throughout the year.
