What's This?

It looks like the Galaxy S5 will not be the only device from Samsung coming in two models, with another leak from @evleaks showing two new Galaxy Gear models heading our way this year.

The image shows two Galaxy Gear models under a magnifying glass, both looking quite alike but with some small differences. The names will be different, one will be called the Galaxy Gear 2 and the other will be named the Galaxy Gear Neo, borrowing the name from the Galaxy Note.

The Galaxy Gear 2 will be the new high-end model and the Galaxy Gear Neo will take the low-end, possibly providing some real competition to the original Pebble. The Pebble Steel is price a little higher than the original, but still lower than the Galaxy Gear and other smartwatches.

Differences between the original and the second generation include the inclusion of a home button and one of the Galaxy Gear models having a front facing camera and plastic casing, instead of metal.

Both will run the same software, although we are not quite sure what that will be, considering reports have said Tizen OS may be coming onto the device, instead of Android.

This would be a bold move by Samsung, to jump away from Google’s Android in favor of their co-oped operating system with Intel, which has yet to be seen on a consumer device.

Android does have some issues when it comes to smartwatch support – this year, Google will most likely address these issues in Android 4.5, with more support for smaller screens and smartwatch designed apps.

The iWatch is incoming and every company must be watching out for what Apple make of the smartwatch market. For those that have yet to step into the market, it will be even harder once Apple show how easy it is to integrate hardware, software and services without any major hiccups.

The Galaxy Gear 2 should be announced at Mobile World Congress, check back here for the full story, GadgetsBoy will be live-blogging from MWC!
