As far as consumer electronics are concerned, it’s not exactly rare to see a manufacturer release several different editions of a single product, often selling said product in slightly different hardware configurations, different colour palettes, or sometimes even different marketing and branding. As such, Samsung is no stranger to this practice, as shown by the launch of its latest Galaxy Watch 6 edition.
More specifically, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 is now available in an “Astro Edition”, which will be exclusive to markets in the MENA region (Middle East and North Africa). Omar Saheb, Regional Marketing Director at Samsung Electronics MENA states:
“Samsung’s Galaxy Watch6 Classic Astro Edition is a testament and tribute to the Middle East’s innovators and their historical prominence in the fields of mathematics, science and innovation, while simultaneously setting the stage for the region’s future pioneers.”
“Samsung strongly believes in the region’s potential and prominent status as a global hub for innovation. This exciting launch not only marks another milestone in technological advancement but also underscores our anticipation for the myriad of ways the MENA region will continue to shape the future of technology.”
What’s so Different About it?
The main difference between this new limited-edition model’s design compared to the “standard” Galaxy Watch 6 models is the rotating Black Astro bezel with a 47mm case. Samsung also offers the model with an additional Fabric Band, Astro Edition collectibles and access to Samsung’s VIP exclusive promotion store. The Astro Edition will also feature a compass on the dial, and will enable users to track movements of the sun and moon right from their wrist. With that in mind though, the rest of the watch’s hardware (especially its internals) will remain similar to the standard Watch 6 model.
For those unfamiliar with the specifics, the regular Watch 6 variant is powered by Samsung’s own Exynos W930 chipset (no Snapdragon here), alongside 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, something that only years before were seen on small Android phones. Inside the Watch 6 is a 300 mAh capacity cell for the smaller variant, although Samsung has included a larger 425 mAh battery inside the larger model.
Samsung has also packed the Watch6 series with a ton of health and fitness tracking features, including refined metrics such as sleep tracking, personalized heart rate zones, support for third-party workout apps including Peloton, and your usual array of Google Wear OS apps.
One UI Watch Updates
In related Samsung Galaxy Watch news, Samsung also released new One UI Watch updates a couple of weeks back for its older devices, which bring some newer features to earlier Galaxy Watch models. The new update allows compatible Galaxy Watch devices to connect with saved home devices, and adjust their settings to give users less distractions and help focus on sleeping. The watch’s LED infrared sensor also works to minimize distractions.
Additionally, Galaxy Watch 5 Pro models will receive improved GPX features, so users can now explore additional routes in a more convenient manner, and will be able to search and download various GPX route files in nearby locations. The Route Workout feature has also received an expansion for more activities, including walking, hiking, and cycling. Galaxy Watch users will also be able to access the Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification (IHRN) feature – as such, IHRN is now available to Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 4 series users, which comes with comprehensive heart health insights.
Going back to the new Galaxy Watch 6 edition, the variant will be available for buyers in markets including Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and the U.A.E.
