It’s finally official – after months of rumors, leaks, and speculation, Samsung has finally launched the Galaxy A34 and A54, its newest additions to the Galaxy A-series phones. While the new phones follow the launch of the Galaxy S23 series devices a month ago, they offer some notable differences in both price and performance. Let’s check them out!
Samsung Galaxy A54
First up is the Samsung Galaxy A54, the “bigger sibling” of the two devices. Upfront, the phone sports a 6.4-inch AMOLED display, with FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It retains the hole punch camera cutout, and at first glance resembles the general look of the Galaxy S23, especially with the curved corners.
The phone comes with four cameras, which include the three lenses on the rear panel of the device. The camera hardware layout is rather similar to the one on the Galaxy S23 as well, which features individual camera bumps. These consist of a 12MP Ultra-Wide Camera with f/2.2 aperture, an f/1.8 50MP Main Camera , an f/2.4 5MP Macro Camera, and an f/2.2 32MP front camera.
As for internal hardware, inside the Galaxy A54 is a Samsung Exynos 1380 chip, and will come in several memory configurations including 6GB RAM + 128GB Storage, 8GB RAM + 128GB Storage, and 8GB RAM + 256GB Storage. The phone will also feature expandable storage with support for micro SD cards of up to 1TB capacity. Powering the phone is a pretty large 5,000 mAh battery, a standard feature for a ton of midrange phones these days.
The phone will ship with Android 13 onboard, although this will of course come layered with Samsung’s One UI 5.1 software, and a suite of Samsung-exclusive apps and features. Samsung adds that the phone will receive up to four generations of OS upgrades and five years of security updates.
Samsung Galaxy A34
Very much like the Galaxy A54, the Samsung Galaxy A34 also packs an AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, although it is slightly larger at 6.6 inches. It also ditches the hole punch camera cutout, and instead opts for a waterdrop notch cut-out which makes for a slight difference in terms of looks.
There are more similarities however – the A34 likewise comes with four cameras, although with some changes to the megapixel count. These consist of an 8MP Ultra-Wide Camera with f/2.2 aperture, an f/1.8 48MP Main Camera , an f/2.4 5MP Macro Camera, and an f/2.2 13MP front camera.
As for internal hardware, the Galaxy A34 also runs on a Samsung Exynos 1380 chip, and will come in several memory configurations including 6GB RAM + 128GB Storage, 8GB RAM + 128GB Storage, and 8GB RAM + 256GB Storage, with support for micro SD cards with up to 1TB storage. There’s also a 5,000 mAh battery onboard. The A34 also comes with the same software version and update support found on the A54.
Pricing and Availability
We can’t stress how similar both devices are, although the A34 is arguably more affordable compared to the A54. In terms of pricing and availability, the Galaxy A54 5G will be available in Awesome Lime, Awesome Graphite, Awesome Violet, and Awesome White, while the Galaxy A34 5G will be available in four colour options, including Awesome Lime, Awesome Graphite, Awesome Violet, and Awesome Silver.
The Galaxy A54 starts at £449 for the 8GB RAM + 128GB version, while the A34 will be available starting at £349 for the 6GB + 128GB variant.
