What's This?

Samsung has had an eventful CES, but apart from tablets and TVs, the company decided not to share any news on their next generation smartphones, including the Galaxy S5.

Lee Young Hee, executive vice president of the mobile business, decided to share some dates and features that will be coming on the Galaxy S5, including the possibility of eye scanning technology.

The executive said that the people are “fanatical” about the Iris scanning technology and points towards it being implemented in the Galaxy S5, to trump Apple’s TouchID feature on the iPhone 5S.

Iris scanning technology has not been added to any smartphone and could allow users to sign in and make payments using their retina, rather than a finger or password. It is certainly a rather exciting feature, one that Samsung would undoubtably love to have on their smartphone.

Apart from the Iris scanning technology, the Galaxy S5 is set to come packed with a ton of new features, including a new Snapdragon 805 processor, 3GB of RAM, 16MP rear camera with OIS and a full metal unibody design.

Samsung will not launch the Galaxy S5 alone, it will be bringing the second generation Galaxy Gear alongside. The first iteration of this product did not do well, with sales under 100,000 according to some analysts.

The second Galaxy Gear will reportedly have a slimmer profile and more applications that take advantage of the device. We still do not see Samsung’s plan for the smartwatch as good, the interface and apps don’t really trump Pebble in any way.

In other Samsung news, the Galaxy Note 4 will apparently come with a “wrap around” display, allowing the user to view on the front and back of the device. This looks like the next step in the flexible display market, we wonder if Samsung will have more success than they had with the Galaxy Round.
