Samsung VP of Mobile Division Lee Young-hee has confirmed the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear will be at the Samsung event at IFA 2013 on September 4.
Normally Samsung like to keep things secret before release events, with no leaker getting close the Galaxy Note 3 or Galaxy Gear design, only finding out about internals and release dates from memos and leaked specs sheets.
The executive talked about the Galaxy Gear and how it will enhance the technology experience when using a smartphone. Young-hee said the Galaxy Gear would be marketed at young trend setters who use the device to connect and advance their mobile experience.
Smartwatches are still questionable tech, the Pebble smartwatch has been the most successful Kickstarter and has sold over 100,000 units, but other companies have had less success with their smartwatch, either because of bad design or bad functionality.
She also denounced rumours the Galaxy Gear would come with a flexible OLED display, as some rumours have pointed out. Samsung holds patents in this field, but is not ready to test it out on a large scale.
Samsung has been in a bit of strife, even though the company holds the most market share on Android, the mobile industry is starting to slow down as more competition starts appearing. This means the company has to look at new ventures for added revenue.
The Galaxy Gear could be a drop for Samsung, as it has for other tech companies. With news of the iWatch, Samsung may have quickly jumped on the bandwagon to try and grab some early thunder, but it may come back to bite them, especially if they put a lot of advertising dollars in the campaign.
