Samsung’s Exynos 5 processor has had little usage, with US and other regional variants of the Galaxy S4 using the Snapdragon 600 processor and some in South Korea using the Snapdragon 800.
The Exynos 5 is an octo-core processor and Samsung has had a little trouble actually adding it to any of their devices, a new rumour says they will not add it to the Galaxy Note 3, set to be their flagship phablet device, instead opting for the Snapdragon 800.
We are unsure if this is just because the Snapdragon 800 runs faster or if Samsung’s is having trouble actually building the CPU. We doubt it is the latter, with Samsung’s monumental strength in manufacturing.
The Snapdragon 800 is a 2.2GHz quad-core processor and is currently coming to every single flagship device available on Android, it seems. Competitors to Qualcomm’s chip are few and far, with the Tegra 4 not seeing much love and MediaTek just starting to bring their octo-core processor to the market.
Samsung will eventually bring the Exynos 5 octo-core option to some regions, although the US will probably not see the chip. South Korea and other select Asian markets will get the Exynos 5 CPU, as they have with the Galaxy S4.
The Galaxy Note 3 is set to launch at IFA on September 6, alongside the new Galaxy Gear smartwatch. Samsung will begin selling it a week later, to compete with the iPhone 5S on sales week.
