What's This?

The big reveal of Qualcomm’s dedicated Windows processors a while back has opened the floodgates for countless PC manufacturers to produce and develop some of the most impressive Arm-based laptops that we’ve seen in a while. As a result some of the biggest names in the industry such as Lenovo, Asus, Acer and Samsung have wasted no time in adopting Qualcomm’s Arm hardware into new products.

Speaking of Samsung, it’s probably safe to say that in addition to its massive selection of smartphones and home appliances, Samsung’s Windows-powered laptops are likewise rather impressive. The company recently expanded its Galaxy Book range with the addition of the 15-inch Book4 Edge, which was formally announced during IFA 2024. The laptop is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X-series chips, specifically its 8-core Snapdragon X Plus processor. If the Book4 Edge might seem familiar to you, that’s because Samsung unveiled an earlier version of the Book4 Edge, which comes with a higher-tier Snapdragon processor (which we’ll talk about a bit later).

The Galaxy Book4 Edge features a slim design similar to the company’s other offerings, and is available in a single display size with a 15.6-inch screen, with a 16:9 aspect ratio, a 1920×1080 pixel resolution, 300nits of brightness, as well asa 60Hz refresh rate. The laptop’s entire build is relatively lightweight despite the considerably large display. The Book4 Edge’s Sapphire Blue chassis also houses several ports for connectivity including USB-C, USB-A, HDMI, a headphone/microphone jack, as well as a Micro SD slot. A 1080p in front camera handles video calls.

As we mentioned earlier, the Galaxy Book4 Edge runs on the Snapdragon X Plus chip, an 8-core processor that works in tandem with a Qualcomm Hexagon NPU, allowing the laptop to run AI-centric tasks with up to 45 TOPS. While the 8-core version of the Snapdragon X Plus is slightly “less powerful” versus its siblings such as the 12-core Snapdragon X Elite and 10-core Snapdragon X Plus, Qualcomm seems confident that its new chip will be able to meet the needs of most users. There’s also 16GB of RAM onboard, in addition to a base storage of 256 GB, although there’s a variant with 512 GB available. Powering this setup is a 61.2 Wh battery, which also supports 65W charging.

Of course, the laptop runs on Windows 11, although Samsung has seen fit to include some of its own exclusive software features onboard, allowing users to integrate the Book4 Edge into the rest of their Samsung hardware setup. As with a lot of newer products these days, there’s also generative AI onboard with Samsung’s own Galaxy AI, in addition to Microsoft’s very own CoPilot+ features. In terms of availability, Samsung says that the laptop will be available France, Germany, Italy, Korea, Spain, the UK and the U.S. starting in October.
