What's This?

Aside from its rather popular line of Galaxy-series smartphones, Samsung is probably best-known for its wide range of TVs and smart monitors. Back during CES 2023 in Las Vegas, Samsung announced a new line-up of displays designed for productivity, entertainment and gaming, although it looks like the electronics giant is not done releasing new displays for 2023, with the launch of its newest Odyssey Neo G7 monitor.

The Neo G7 uses a flat Mini-LED design, and comes with a 43-inch display designed for immersive gaming, allowing for a more comprehensive range of vision and details during gaming sessions. According to Hoon Chung, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics:

“The gaming monitor market is only going to get bigger, and gamers are now seeking more out of their monitors. We are not just delivering better gaming experience — we are rebuilding new smart capabilities into our screens that give gamers an all-in-one place for technology and entertainment. Our innovations are enabling gamers everywhere to stay absorbed in their games with visual performance that enhances the intense emotional experiences.”

The display’s large screen comes with 4K resolution (3,840 x 2,160), alongside VESA Display HDR600 and HDR 10+ certification. The Odyssey Neo G7 also features Samsung’s Quantum Matrix Technology which uses Quantum Mini LEDs. Samsung says that this gives viewers richer blacks, better color quality and detail, even in dark gaming environments. The display also comes with a Matte coating, which reduces glare and reflections.

In terms of connectivity, the G7 features DisplayPort and HDMI ports designed for full compatibility with desktop PCs, as well as HDMI 2.1 for game consoles. There’s also built-in WIFI/Bluetooth for connectivity with smart devices, and even wireless controllers for cloud gaming platforms. Furthermore, the G7 also features a 144Hz refresh rate and 1ms response time for smooth PC gaming.

The monitor also comes with Samsung’s Game Bar, a built-in tool that allows for easy customizability, allowing players to modify their FPS count, variable refresh rate, and other settings like as screen ratio, response time and Game Picture mode, to name a few.

Additionally, Samsung’s Smart Hub and Gaming Hub are built into the display, allowing players to take advantage of game streaming services like Xbox’s Cloud Gaming platform and NVIDIA GeForce NOW. Of course, there’s also an array of entertainment apps including Netflix, youTube and Amazon Prime Video, which are easily accessible through the monitor itself.

This launch follows the release of several other Samsung monitors at CES, which include Samsung’s Smart Monitor M8, Odyssey OLED G9, Odyssey Neo G9 Gaming Monitor, and the the Samsung ViewFinity S9.

In terms of availability, the Odyssey Neo G7 will be up for grabs beginning Q1 2023, although specific regional launch dates may vary. Folks looking forward to getting their hands on one will want to keep an eye out for pricing and any possible promos.
