It does seem highly likely Sony will reveal a new smartwatch next week, with a few big hints dropped by Sony Xperia’s Twitter account, detailing Sony’s legacy in the smartwatch market and how 1/3 people want a smart wrist watch.
Pebble managed to do what many big vendors of smart wrist watches could not, gain a huge amount of backers. The Pebble smartwatch has hit records on the crowd-funding site Kickstarter and over 60,000 backers participated.
Now we are hearing about the iWatch, Google’s possible smartwatch, Samsung has officially announced they will be making a smartwatch and it seems Sony will join the group.
The Sony smartwatch will be revealed at Mobile Asia Expo next week if rumours are correct. This does seem to suggest Sony are a little scared to make this a big event and make a big deal out of the smartwatch, surprisingly.
What the Sony smartwatch really needs is a clear UI for the user to easily navigate between different smartwatch related apps, possibly using a similar interface to the iPod Nano.
