Sony could be preparing to refresh the Xperia Z for the next short generation of mobile processors, by stacking in Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 on the same device, with the possibility of a new screen as well.
The Xperia Z with the new processor is currently being tested internally and may be shown off at Sony’s event tomorrow, alongside some new larger devices in the phablet space.
Samsung is doing the same thing with their Galaxy S4 variant, adding the Snapdragon 800 and LTE-advanced for users who want some extra speed both internally and wirelessly.
Nothing has been said on LTE-advanced for the Xperia Z with Snapdragon 800, we doubt it has been a focus topic for Sony. LTE-advanced is still in baby stages and only Samsung are really pushing the issue of getting a phone out with the capabilities.
One of the biggest complaints about the Xperia Z was compared to the Galaxy S4 and HTC One the 1080p screen looked lacklustre. This may have been something to do with the waterproof design and we may even see Sony reveal a phone with open ports and a better screen tomorrow.
