With MWC (Mobile World Congress) only a few weeks away, Sony Mobile is probably one of the first to have sent out an invite for their press conference out in Barcelona. Ahead of the event, a leak has already popped up and reveals what could be the biggest shift in the Xperia range in a very long time, its design.
If the leaked renders on the Chinese website MyDrivers is legit, then we can expect a device that looks sleek with fewer bezels and a pro spec to match. The website also details what we could expect under the hood; it moves from an LCD panel seen on the Xperia XZ Premium to an OLED panel which opens the door for a better 4K display on a 5.7-inch span – it means improved colours and deeper blacks. At the top and bottom, there are holes which could mean we get a set of stereo front-firing speakers too – thumbs up for that!
At CES 2018, Vivo’s new smartphone features a fingerprint sensor embedded under its display, thanks to OLED, it may also mean a future for this feature on Xperia smartphones. OLED allows light to be emitted via individual pixels to read your fingerprint signature. To top off the display, adding HDR support would also be a winner.
Under its infinity edge or edge-to-edge display, we can expect Android Oreo powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 845 chipset coupled with 6GB of RAM. The leak also revealed a 3420mAh battery which when combined with an efficient processor should equal an all-day battery life – hopefully we’ll get fast charging and wireless charging too.
You can’t launch a flagship device without adding a good camera; according to MyDrive’s leak, the slated Xperia XZ Pro’s main camera will be a dual-lens setup at 18MP + 12MP sensors. What it doesn’t say is whether it will be for 2 x telephoto setup or for portrait/bokeh effect or one wide angle + one standard configuration. Elsewhere, the front-facing camera is going to be a 13MP lens for high-quality selfies. To save your videos and photos, we can expect a 64GB onboard storage which can be expanded
