Sony’s lineup of professional and consumer-grade cameras are designed in such a way that there’s a choice for everyone looking for a model that can suit their exact needs. With that in mind, if you’re a content creator then you might want to check out the new ZV-E10 II, which is designed to serve as an easy-to-use, compact, and versatile tool for content creators. There’s a ton of stuff packed inside, naturally – let’s see what it offers.
It should come as no surprise that the ZV-E10 II features upgrades over its predecessor, such as a 26 megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor and Sony’s latest BIONZ XR image processing engine. Other goodies with the ZV-E10 II include improved autofocus and video capture, 759-point Focal Plane Phase-detection AF with Real-time Eye AF for live subject and real-time tracking, as well as a larger battery (up to 195 minutes of video recording per charge), all in a package that weighs just 377 grams.
The camera comes with two main functions with content creation in mind – Sony calls this the Creative Looks feature and Cinematic Vlog Setting. When shooting videos or stills, users can add enhancements to their content by selecting from ten different Creative Look options, which include Standard (ST), Portrait (PT), Neutral (NT), Vivid (VV), Vivid 2 (VV2), Film (FL), Instant (IN), Soft Highkey (SH), Black & White (BW), and Sepia (SE). Each of these settings can be further tweaked and can be edited through eight different parameters. Additionally, users can also save six personal custom styles directly for instant access.
The ZV-E10 II also lets users create cinematic video content instantly with the Cinematic Vlog Setting. This automatically adjusts the aspect ratio, frame rate, and AF transition speed to optimal settings which recreate cinematic video looks. Creators can further enhance their footage by selecting from five Looks such as S-Cinetone for improved skin tones, and four different Moods with differently-tuned colour settings.
For vlog content, the ZV-E10 II also comes with a vertical user interface that can quickly adapt depending on your shooting orientation, which kinda works similarly to most smartphones these days. Additional features like the Product Showcase Setting, Background Defocus Function, and Soft Skin Effect also make it easy to capture professional-looking videos.
As for other hardware details, Sony has packed quite a ton into the ZV-E10 II – wired connectivity is handled by a USB-C port for fast file transfers, and there’s also support for high-speed 5 GHz Wi-Fi for live streaming purposes. As with most other Sony cameras, it of course includes a built-in microphone with adjustable directivity, and an option to connect an external microphone for better audio quality. Sony has also included accessibility features like a screen reader and a menu magnifier.
In terms of availability and pricing, the ZV-E10 II and E PZ 16-50MM F3.5-5.6 OSS II will be available at the end of July 2024. Sony says that the ZV-E10 II will be priced at £950, and the E PZ 16-50MM F3.5-5.6 OSS II will cost £290; the body and lens kit will be £1050.
