Huawei recently announced its latest addition to its wireless audio product lineup, the Huawei FreeClip earbuds. Unlike its past wireless earbuds however, the FreeClip integrates a look that features open-ear elements, although Huawei says that this new approach to design doesn’t compromise on audio quality. What makes these new earbuds different though?
A New Design
Right off the bat, you’ll notice that unlike most other wireless earbuds that go straight into your ear, Huawei says that it has combined three major design aspects into the earbuds, which include the Comfort Bean, the Acoustic Ball, and the C-bridge Design.
From the name itself, the Comfort Bean uses an ergonomic bean-shaped design, which fits into the curves and diverse shapes of a user’s ear. Meanwhile, the Acoustic Ball is designed based on the shapes of real cavum concha models and slides onto the user’s skin without causing discomfort and strain. These are then connected by the C-bridge Design which features an adaptive sensor that learns and adjusts the clamping force of the clasp mechanism, reducing the strain on the user’s ear cartilage.
Audio Hardware
Given that the FreeClip uses an open-ear design (a trend that’s been catching on lately), Huawei has equipped its earbuds with a high-sensitivity Dual Magnetic Circuit Moving Coil Unit and the Reverse Sound Waves system, which it claims can work hand-in-hand to ensure clarity without compromising sound quality.
The dual-magnet high-sensitivity driver unit provides powerful sound production that can capture even nuanced tones in a track, while the Reverse Sound Waves System lets users enjoy intelligent volume adjustment while subtly cancelling sound waves, allowing for reduced sound leakage. The FreeClip also features designed dual sound rear vents on the backside of the acoustic ball to reduce sound leakage.
Additional Specs, Pricing
As for battery endurance, Huawei says that the FreeClip can last for up to 8 hours of playback from a single charge, or up to 36 hours using the charging case for occasional top-ups, making it ideal for long commutes and flights. Additionally, the FreeClips come with an IP54 rating for added water, dust and sweat resistance, which should work nicely for users with active lifestyles, or a bit of rain every now and then. There’s also wear detection onboard, so users can choose to have their music automatically pause whenever the FreeClips are taken out of their ear.
In terms of pricing and availability, the Huawei FreeClip buds will be available in the UK and Europe starting late December, priced at £179.99/€199. Customers who pre order/order from the UK Huawei Store between 12th December 2023 and 29th January 2024 will also be rewarded with a free HUAWEI Band 8.
