What's This?

A few months ago, Oppo announced the launch of the Oppo Watch X, a Wear OS-powered smartwatch that came with some fairly impressive hardware specs. At the time however, the watch was exclusive for buyers in China, although Oppo has thankfully brought the device to European markets, priced at 329 EUR or £299 in the UK.

One thing to note however is that the Oppo Watch X does look quite familiar, and if you’re thinking that it was just a rebranded variant of the OnePlus Watch 2, then you’re not wrong. Since Oppo and OnePlus are closely-tied companies under their parent corporation BBK electronics, it’s not entirely surprising that the two occasionally rebrand each others’ devices to sell under a different name. With that in mind though, what can you expect from the Oppo Watch X? Let’s take a look.

Minor Design Changes

As the Oppo Watch X is basically the same as the OnePlus Watch 2, there’s hardly any difference in design, probably aside from the colour options, which Oppo calls “Platinum Black” and “Mars Brown.” Elsewhere though, the Oppo Watch X is essentially the same device. This includes the stainless steel case, which wraps around the 2.5D sapphire crystal cover. Thankfully it also comes with the same durability with MIL-STD-810H US standard rating, as well as IP68 and 5ATM water resistance. The AMOLED touch display stays the same at 1.43 inches too.

Internal Specs and Software Features

The similarities also extend to the inside – the Oppo Watch X runs on the same Snapdragon W5 chipset with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, and the device packs a 500 mAh battery with support for 7.5W VOOC fast charging that fully replenishes the battery in just an hour. Oppo says that the battery can last up to 100 hours in smart mode, and can be extended for up to 12 days in power saver mode.

As it is a Wear OS device, the Oppo Watch X will work with non-Oppo smartphones, as long as they run on Android. This also means that users get access to a ton of different apps via the Google Play Store, in addition to pre-installed software from Oppo. Thankfully, there’s also access to services such as Google Assistant, Google Wallet and Google Maps.

For health and fitness tracking, the Oppo Watch X tracks several metrics such as all-day sleep recording (deep sleep, light sleep, REM, awake), sleep quality score, sleep breathing rate, sleep snoring risk assessment, heart rate monitoring, blood oxygen monitoring, and more. There’s also support for more than 100 different built-in sports modes, which should make it a versatile workout companion.

With all that being said, if you have a OnePlus Watch 2, then we don’t see much reason to go out and get the Oppo Watch X, unless you absolutely need to have both models with you. If you haven’t seen the OnePlus Watch 2 though, then we’d recommend checking out our video review below.
