What's This?

Just recently, Razer unveiled its latest addition to its massive lineup of premium gaming accessories, the Razer Wolverine V3 Pro. Designed for Xbox consoles and Microsoft Windows devices, the V3 Pro packs a ton of impressive features, a lot of which integrate modern hardware designs. Available in wired and wireless variants, Razer is marketing the Wolverine V3 Pro as a controller designed for pro players, although we’re confident that even newer players will take a liking to this – let’s check it out.

Overall Design

Take one look at the Wolverine V3 Pro and it’s clear that it was designed by Razer. Sure, one could say that it looks like any other controller out there, especially when you factor in the standard button layout that most manufacturers – other than Sony and a few others – have adopted these days. The V3 Pro comes with all the trappings that you’d expect from a Razer product, especially with the signature green-and-black look. It also has a USB-C port for charging, which also serves as a connection port for the wired variant. Razer has also added focus on ergonomics, which make the controller grippy without sacrificing comfort.

Controls and Features

The Wolverine V3 Pro unsurprisingly comes with a robust set of controls, which are arguably the main highlight of the controller. Razer claims that it’s designed the controller to feature advanced customization for users, as well as improved input response times. The V3 Pro also comes with a set of mouse click back paddles (a rarity on most controllers), a pair of claw grip bumpers, Razer’s own “Pro HyperTriggers,” and of course, good old Hall Effect precision thumbsticks. As for battery life, Razer says that it can last for up to 20 hours on a single charge, which isn’t too bad.

Connectivity Options

In terms of wireless connection support, there’s a slight catch to the Wolverine V3 Pro – while it is technically a wireless controller, you’ll need a USB-A dongle to use it, which plugs into one of the USB ports on your Xbox or PC. It’s a bit different than the standard wireless setup on Microsoft’s own first-party Xbox controllers, which don’t require the need for an additional device for connectivity. On the other hand if you don’t mind having a wired setup, the controller also comes in a “Tournament” edition which connects with a cable to your console or PC.

Price and Availability

Perhaps one big consideration to be made with the Wolverine V3 Pro is its price – at £199, it’s definitely a lot more expensive than most third-party controller options out there, and even Microsoft’s own standard Xbox controller. Of course you do get a lot of newer features in terms of overall functionality, but of course the price does factor in. If you want to shave off a hundred quid, the wired Tournament edition thankfully comes priced at £99 making it a lot cheaper than the regular edition. Both models are available for order now from Razer and other participating third-party sellers.
