As we’ve mentioned countless times before, Xiaomi has this habit of releasing multiple smartphones under different names and slightly-altered configurations in various regions and markets the world over, and it looks like the company’s at it again with the new Redmi Note 14S. Launched for select regions in Europe, the Note 14S is priced at around 200 quid, making it one of the more affordable devices on the market right now. But what kind of specs does it come with, though?

As far as looks are concerned, the Redmi Note 14S comes with an unassuming design, and when viewed from the front you might mistake it for any other smartphone out there. With that said, the phone comes with flat sides and a flat display, an AMOLED panel that measures at 6.67 inches, with a 120Hz refresh rate. Given that it’s a midrange device, we’re not expecting Xiaomi to equip the Redmi 14S with groundbreaking product design, and playing it safe is undoubtedly the best approach here, if not to keep a sense of familiarity for Redmi fans looking to upgrade from an older device.

Inside, the phone runs on the MediaTek Helio G99 Ultra chip, another tell-tale sign that this is a phone that’s meant to be light on one’s wallet. MediaTek’s Dimensity-class chips are often found on upper midrange handsets, so it kinda makes sense that Xiaomi used a lower-end SoC for this one to keep costs relatively low. With that being said, there are some other signs that the Note 14S is meant to compete on the lower end of the Android smartphone market.

It does come with 8GB of RAM though, which is a much-welcome feature to have especially since some manufacturers are still selling budget phones with 4GB of RAM. It also includes 256GB of internal storage, which is expandable via a micro SD card. The phone is also powered by a 5,000 mAh battery, with support for 67W charging speeds; for software, you’re getting Xiaomi Hyper OS on top of Android, with support for pre-installed Xiaomi apps and select third-party software.

In terms of camera hardware, The Redmi Note 14S features a triple lens setup which consists of a 200MP main lens, accompanied by 8MP and 2MP cameras; flip the phone over and there’s a 16 MP camera in front for selfies and video calls. Other specs include IP64 water and dust protection, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and 4G connectivity. Given some of the limitations that come with the handset, Xiaomi might have a bit of trouble especially with competing budget devices from Samsung for example, although the large display and versatile camera setup might be enough to convince buyers who are after affordability first and foremost.
