What's This?

For a lot of tech companies, the yearly refresh of staple hardware offerings such as smartphones and tablets usually involves some sort of marketing strategy designed to highlight the biggest changes and innovations that the new product comes with. We’ve seen this with products such as the Samsung Galaxy S22, S23, and most recently the S24, for example.

With that in mind, the Korean tech giant recently launched the latest version of its hit Galaxy Tab S6 Lite, although there’s more it has in common with its predecessor, retaining a lot of the same hardware from 2020. This is actually the second time that Samsung has refreshed the model, and the second time that it maintains a generally similar setup with the earlier versions, save for the new Exynos chip inside.

Hardware Design

It’s important to note that this is not a Galaxy Tab S7 Lite of some sort – Samsung has decided to use the exact same product name for the tablet, which only differs with “2024” in its title. The 2024 Tab S6 Lite also comes with the same exact look, featuring slim bezels on the sides of the 10.4-inch display and an all-metal build – it’s one of the highlights of the device however, as it looks just as new as with a ton of other new tablets on the market. On the sides you’ll find power and volume buttons, multiple speaker grilles, a USB-C port, and a micro SD card tray.

Going back to the 10.4-inch screen, it’s clear where Samsung has cut corners – it’s sharp and wide, yes, but it does lack newer display features found on more competitive rivals, such as a 120Hz refresh rate and OLED to name a couple. It gets the job done though, and given the midrange price of the tablet it’s not exactly all that surprising to see.

Internal Specs

With the 2022 version of the Tab S6 Lite, Samsung opted to use a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset which could be considered a significant upgrade from the Exynos processor in the first-generation Tab S6 Lite. With that being said however, the company went back to its in-house chips for the 2024 model, this time in the form of the Exynos 1280. It’s the same SoC powering a number of midrange Samsung devices, and while it isn’t exactly a terrible choice, it would have been nice to see a Snapdragon chip on this year’s S6 Lite variant.

The tablet also features a modest 4GB of RAM which is available with either 64 or 128GB of internal storage, which users can expand with a micro SD card. This was probably a missed opportunity for Samsung to increase the RAM configuration even by just 2GB, which would have been most welcome. Other device specs include an 8MP primary camera and 5MP selfie camera, and a rather large 7,040 mAh battery which should be enough for most users. There’s also an S-Pen, a nice addition for users who want to get a bit of productivity done on the tablet.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite 2024 is available starting on March 28 for several regions, although there’s no word of US availability at the moment.
