What's This?

Over the years, we’ve seen some rather impressive hardware come out of Xiaomi’s labs, and its latest showcase at MWC 2025 expands on the manufacturer’s smartphone offerings. We’re of course talking about the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, which was announced alongside global availability for the “standard” Xiaomi 15. Xiaomi has spent the last few weeks building up hype for the 15 Ultra, and it does come with some impressive hardware components – let’s take a look!

The biggest highlight – and we mean literally – of the Xiaomi 15 Ultra is the massive camera setup on the rear panel, which brings to mind certain Nokia smartphones of yesteryear. While most phones these days have large camera modules (with a few exceptions), the 15 Ultra certainly falls in line with that although Xiaomi wants to make sure that its phone stands out with a bit of help from Leica, which was involved with the development of the phone’s camera. Flip the phone over and you’re greeted by a 6.73-inch AMOLED display, with a sharp resolution of 1440×3200 pixels, and a 120Hz refresh rate. There’s also Xiaomi Shield Glass 2.0 and IP68 for a bit of added durability.

The Xiaomi 15 Ultra’s imaging setup consists of a 50MP wide lens with a large 1-inch sensor with f/1.6 aperture, accompanied by a 50MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, a 200MP periscope telephoto lens with 4.3x optical zoom, as well as an ultrawide 50MP lens with a 115˚ fov and dual pixel PDAF. The camera app also features Leica lenses which add a bit of versatility to your shots, while video recording maxes out at 8K resolution at 30fps. In front, you’re getting a 32MP camera for selfies and video calls.

Interestingly, Xiaomi is also selling a separate version which it calls the “Photography Kit Legend Edition” – this variant features a black look with red design accents, and an included camera attachment which really doubles down on the phone’s entire design as a photography-dedicated device. It also serves as a backup power source, and comes equipped with built-in physical controls.

As for what’s inside the phone, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, and comes with a base storage/memory configuration of 256GB and 12GB RAM, although you can pay more for a souped-up configuration which comes with 1TB storage and 16GB of RAM. Powering the phone is a 5,410 mAh battery, a slight step-down from the 6,000 mAh cell inside the Chinese version of the phone. It does support 90W wired charging speeds, as well as 80W wireless charging.

For software, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra comes with Android 15 inside with – you guessed it – HyperOS 2. for those unfamiliar, HyperOS 2 is Xiaomi’s own approach to a more “customized” Android interface, which offers users additional features not found on more standard versions of Android, This includes pre-installed apps, wallpapers, themes, with a rich approach to personalization involved as well. Xiaomi says that it will provide up to four years of major Android upgrades for the Xiaomi 15 Ultra.
