What's This?

Ritesim.com, a UK-based company that supplies travelers with local pay-as-you-go sim cards, identifies the most expensive destinations for holiday-makers to contact home from, with the top five revealed as Uganda, India, USA, Thailand and China.

A comparison study done by Ritesim.com has shown that using a local sim card saves serious bucks.

For example, calling a UK landline from China cost £1.65 per minute when using a market-leading phone company’s sim card, while Ritesim.com’s sim card cut this cost down to just £0.04 per minute. Also, when phoning a UK mobile from India, a leading global sim company charged £3.10 per minute, while the equivalent call using Ritesim.com’s sim card was just £0.14 per minute.

A snapshot of the study (below) shows that under each comparison category, the sim card provided by Ritesim.com was the best value.

While all three sim card competitors placed a charge on receiving phone calls from the UK, all of Ritesim.com’s sim cards allow incoming calls to be accepted free of charge.

When using mobile internet at these destinations, the Ritesim.com sim cards were several pounds cheaper per megabyte (MB) of data. With one MB of data allowing on average two image uploads to a social media site, this adds up to significant savings.

Uganda provided a clear example of this price gap, with the market-leading sim card provider charging £6.00 per MB of data, while the Ritesim.com sim card provided this for just £0.02 – offering the same amount of data for a fraction of the price.

“We recognise that travellers increasingly want to share their adventures with loved ones back home while they’re still away via outlets like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, so the local sim cards we provide have been carefully selected to provide the best value for money on the market”, says John Butterfield, Ritesim.com Director.
