The Ring-O Wall Mount from Vogel
If you’re like me the first thing you always look forward to doing when you buy a new electronic device is to accessorize it, and when I bought the Apple iPad 2 it was no exception. There are literally a metric ton of accessories for Apple’s darling tablet, with car mounts, music docks, wall mounts, child friendly cases etc., etc.
But that’s the rub; all the different manufacturers making the gadgets and accessories for the iPad aren’t exactly speaking to each other and coordinating their efforts. What that leaves you with is the need to constantly switch back and forth between products, especially if you want to use your iPad in the car one minute but then use it on your desktop or mount it on the wall the next.
To the rescue comes Vogel, a small company for the Netherlands that has brought their product, the RingO Mounting system, the market with the hope of becoming the all-in-one iPad mounting system. Their design incorporates an iPad cover that snaps onto the device and includes a mounting hole in the back that attaches to the various mounts that are available with the system.
The Wall Mount is a discrete and stylishly-designed button that can be screwed onto almost any surface. Any tablet with a Vogel’s Holder can then be easily clicked onto the Wall Mount so it hangs safely in place, ready for viewing films, photos, recipes, or any other application. Once mounted, the tablet can be freely rotated through 360 degrees, and the locking system ensures stable and secure support. And unmounting the tablet is just as easy.
There’s a table stand, a car mount and a wall mount so far, and the best thing about the RingO system is that you’ll have full access to all of your iPad’s controls while using it, including using a charge/sync cable. Better yet, the RingO is completely compatible with Apple’s beloved iPad Smart Cover, which should make many people very happy and be the over-the-top selling point of the system.
The wall mount on the RingO system looks extremely simple and indeed is not only simple to use but simple to mount also. Simply use the screw (included, and a dry wall screw also) to mount the ‘button’ onto the wall. RingO suggests mounting it to a stud but, in my opinion, it’s not necessary. Still, to be 100% safe, it might not be such a bad idea.
Once the ‘button’ is attached to the wall you simple pop the iPad (in the case, natch) onto it and voila, the trick, she is done! Removing it is just as simple; push the 2 tabs on either side of the ‘button’ and off it pops. You can use your iPad in a vertical or horizontal position with the mount too, nice and simple.
Mine’s in the kitchen near the fridge and we use it as a ‘family note board’. It works great and looks really cool. I could see this being used for a variety of different things at home, work and in businesses. It makes the iPad hands free making them even more awesome.
So if you’re looking for an easy system to mount your iPad that also allows you to easily take it off and mount it in the car or use it on the desk with the desk stand then RingO is your solution. As far as iPad accessories go, it’s one of the best I’ve ever seen.
