Weekends are great – a lot of the time, they give you a chance to relax, unwind, or just act lazy for a bit before the week’s grind returns. It’s also a time to catch up on some of the week’s happenings, and this of course includes tech news. We’ve rounded up some of the biggest headlines from some of the biggest brands in the industry, so for those of you who’ve missed out, here’s what happened in tech these past few days.
Xiaomi to Launch an SUV Next Year
Chinese tech giant Xiaomi’s first attempt at en electric vehicle was undoubtedly a success, with the company reaching its 100,000 sales milestone this year. With that said though, it looks like Xiaomi is working on a follow-up which is set to be announced sometime next year. Currently dubbed the Xiaomi YU7, the upcoming vehicle will be an electric SUV and will reportedly run on two motors and two powertrain configurations, one with 220 kW maximum output and another with 288 kW.
Apple Rolls out More AI Features
Apple finally announced that it was rolling out several OS updates for different platforms, including iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2. While Apple’s OS upgrades are nothing new, the big highlight this time around is that the company continues to build on its Apple Intelligence software features, including support for Image Playground, Genmoji, Writing Tools, Image Wand, as well as integration between Siri and ChatGPT.
More Pixel Tablet 2 Details Leak Online
Following the announced cancellation of the Pixel Tablet 2, we’re now starting to see more and more details about the ill-fated follow-up to the Pixel Tablet from 2023. Google’s supposed successor slate would have been equipped with a smoother 120Hz display, upgraded cameras, its current Tensor G4 chipset, and there are even reports that Google was working on a stylus with a shortcut button function and a design that would have allowed users to clip it magnetically in place on the tablet.
Meet Nokia’s 5G Camera
Nokia recently announced the arrival of a rather “unexpected” product – a 5G-enabled 360° camera. Designed for industry and enterprise purposes, it comes with support for 8K-resolution footage, IP67 dust and water resistance, and it also features shock resistance to keep it safe from most bumps. As mentioned, the camera also packs built-in 5G connectivity, so it’s able to receive and transmit data whenever needed, in addition to support for WiFi and Ethernet connections.
Samsung and Google Team Up for Android XR
Finally, we have Samsung and Google – the latter has just unveiled its Android XR platform, an upcoming ecosystem of apps and devices specifically tailored to bring Android software and features to wearable XR (extended reality) headsets. Alongside this, Samsung also unveiled that it’s been working on a new product codenamed “Project Moohan,” an upcoming premium XR headset which will run on Android XR. At the moment though there’s no definite release timeline for Android XR and Project Moohan, although we can expect more details to follow soon.
