After a long and rather questionable ride, the Wikipad has finally got a release date and price, with a few changes to the Android gaming tablet since the last time it was shown off.
The original release date was Halloween last year, but the 10-inch Android gaming device never made it to launch and then questions started arising as to whether the company would release the tablet.
Now it has returned with a new seven-inch form factor and a few small changes. It still runs on the Tegra 3 processor with 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage and Android 4.1. The 7-inch tablet has a 1280 x 800 IPS screen, the same as the Nexus 7.
The most notable change from normal tablets is the game control pad, which acts as a Bluetooth controller for games. Previous hands on with the device has shown a pretty responsive and clever system, although we will have to wait for the end product to see what the Wikipad can achieve.
In our eyes, the Wikipad is a long time overdue and has questionable specs. The new Tegra 4 is all the range now and the 720p IPS screen is adequate at best.
The only desirable feature about the Wikipad against a normal tablet is the game controller, and this is pushed to a niche audience that enjoys gaming on Android. Not to mention there are many Bluetooth controllers on the market and these work on more than one device.
