What's This?

When it comes to Xiaomi’s POCO phones, the brand’s F-series devices always come with rather impressive hardware and software features, and this year’s F7 phones are no different – Xiaomi finally unveiled the POCO F7 Pro and F7 Ultra, both of which pack some notable specs, and while they might look pretty similar to each other, there are some key differences between the two devices. Let’s take a look!

POCO F7 Pro

First up is the POCO F7 Pro, which is the more affordable model between the two. Priced at just £499, the phone is meant to compete with the likes of the Pixel 9a and Samsung Galaxy A56 for example, although compared to its rivals it has an ace up its sleeve – you see, powering the POCO F7 Pro is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, Qualcomm’s highly-praised flagship chip from 2023. Sure it’s older now, but the 8 Gen 3 remains a powerful SoC nonetheless, paired with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage on the F7 Pro. The handset is also powered by a large 6,000 mAh battery, which also supports 90W charging.

On the outside, you’re getting a large 6.67-inch AMOLED display, which features Gorilla Glass 7i protection, a sharp 2K resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and a maximum brightness of 1,800 nits, which can climb up to 3,200. The phone also features Android 15 on top of Xiaomi’s Hyper OS interface, which gives you access to exclusive Xiaomi software and in-depth personalization options. For cameras, you’re getting a setup which consists of a 50MP main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide camera, and a 20MP front camera for selfies and video calls.

POCO F7 Ultra

Meanwhile, the POCO F7 Ultra comes with a bump in performance, with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite running the show. Available in a 12GB + 256GB RAM and storage configuration starting at £649, users can opt for a slightly beefed-up version that packs 16GB + 512GB instead. It’s clearly designed to take on rival handsets such as the OnePlus 13R for example, which is is priced a bit similarly. It does come with a smaller 5,300 mAh battery however, although Xiaomi has boosted charging speeds to 120W, and 50W wireless charging.

Similar to the F7 Pro, the Ultra variant comes with a similar display setup, save for the POCO Shield Glass protection instead of Corning’s own display. Other similarities between the two devices include dual speaker setups, IR blaster functionality, and IP68 dust and water protection. It should be noted though that the POCO F7 Ultra features a more versatile camera setup, which includes a 50MP main camera, a 50MP telephoto camera with 2.5X zoom, a 32MP ultrawide camera, as well as a 32MP front camera.

Given how each handset is priced, Xiaomi really wants to win over budget-conscious buyers who don’t necessarily want to spend too much on a smartphone. The inclusion of high-end Snapdragon chipsets is a huge plus, and the F7 Ultra’s camera system in particular likewise makes it an attractive proposition over the Pro, although to be honest you can’t go wrong with either device.
