Sony has tried to double down on leaks, telling staff not to preview anything without an NDA and always use protective casing when taking the smartphone, to overt the design to third parties who may want to leak.
This came after news on the Xperia Z2 specs, including the Triluminous display with 500ppi, 3GB of RAM and Android 4.4 KitKat. Sony has yet to deny these rumors, we think they will just blank them out as another unfortunate leak.
It seems like news on the Xperia Z1 Mini is continuing to be released despite Sony’s double down policy, with a new specs sheet comparing the smaller Xperia variant with the already released Xperia Z1.
Sony will lower the display on the Xperia Z1 Mini, to 1280 x 720. With the smaller display size, this still hits 331ppi, as high as the high-tier smartphones before 1080p (Galaxy Nexus, HTC One X, Galaxy S3).
Similarities between the two smartphones include the Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.2GHz, 2GB of RAM and the 20.7MP camera. Sony will drop the storage size from 32GB to 16GB, possibly for pricing purposes.
Battery size has been dropped a little to 2300mAh, although this may not be as bad as some believe, considering the large amount of changes to battery life on Android 4.3 and possibly extended on Android 4.4 and the 720p display not taking a huge chunk of life.
We still do not have a date or price for the Xperia Z1 Mini, but we believe Sony will start prices similar to the Galaxy S4 Mini and HTC One Mini. This means an extra $100 – 150 off the contract price compared to the Xperia Z1.
